Near the end of 1990s, the forestry industry began to "reduce production, limit logging, and lay off workers." For the first time, Gu Changshan’s family and members of the 923 work team faced the choice of staying or leaving.

Gu Changshan has adopted Xingjie, the orphaned son of his late colleague who died on duty. Despite their initial hesitation, the Gu family decides to help Xingjie continue with his studies. Meanwhile, the layoff crisis among forestry workers gradually resolves itself as the younger workers became the first to leave. Gu Changshan leads the remaining people to participate in the "family ecological forest" project.

In 2007, in order to protect the ecology and improve people’s livelihoods, the resettlement project in remote areas began, and the 923 team once again faced a tough choice. Xingjie is pulled back to the mountains as he takes over the task of mobilizing immigrants and bears the mission of forestry reform. Given the logging restrictions in 2014 and 2015, Xingjie actively responds to the call that "gold and silver mines are not as good as blue waters and green mountains" and leads the people towards a better life.

Five years ago, a young woman named Min Hui accidentally fell for a young man named Xin Qi. But things between them were complicated because Min Hui was pretending to be Xin Qi’s long lost childhood friend in a misguided way to help the friend who had died suddenly. After some heart to heart conversations, explanations, and even a quirky living arrangement, can these two forgive each other and themselves for the mistakes they both made in the past and rekindle their love, now as a fully evolved family?

High school student Gi Tae takes his own life. His father feels a heavy sense of guilt and confusion over his son’s death. The father was largely absent from Gi Tae’s life. He decides to search for answers on his son’s death.

Gi Tae’s father finds a picture in his son’s desk drawer. The picture consists of Gi Tae and high school friends Dong Yoon and Hee Joon.

Gi Tae’s father is able to locate Hee Joon. The high school boy is evasive with answers, explaining he transferred to another school prior to Gi Tae’s death. Hee Joon also mentions that Gi Tae’s best friend was Dong Hoon. Gi Tae’s father thinks back to his son’s funeral and recalls that Dong Hoon never showed up at his best friend’s funeral. Gi Tae’s father then asks Hee Joon to find Dong Yoon, who has now dropped out of school completely. What happened to these three former best friends?
